My name is Zuleika Morales Carrero. I hold a B. A. in English Literature and a Certification for Teaching English at the Secondary Level, to which I both finished in May 2014. Currently, I am part of the Master’s Program at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez Campus and by the end of May 2016 I will have finished my Masters of Arts in English Education. I am an active member of The University Choir, Sigma Delta Nu Sorority, Future Teacher Association and RUMEGA. I am also the Founder President of the Professional Graduate Honor Society and the Founder Treasurer of the Popular Culture Student Association at UPR at Mayagüez. All of these memberships, though challenging, have helped me become the structured, responsible and committed person I am today. I was born in Mayagüez; first daughter of three brothers. My parents viewed my education as important and essential in my life, therefore, I was expected a high proficiency in my academic life. As a result, I also graduated Magna Cum Laude in both B.A. and Teaching Certificate. I began my studies at a private elementary school in Aguada and then finished middle and high school in the public system. I am the result of fifty percent private and fifty percent public school educational system. I was accepted in the University of Puerto Rico at the English Department and Teaching Preparation Program in 2009. As a result of my academic hard work, I have been part of the honor roll since 2011. Furthermore, I was also accepted in the Masters of Arts in English Education in 2014 and continue the hard work. I have continually participated in different community service activities such as help caring for stray animals in Hogar Villa Michelle, coastal cleaning, participating in fundraisers for cancer patients, organized a Children Fitness Program and a Secret Santa Visit for at-risk youths at local foster care institutions. I also work as a cashier at Walmart Inc, where I also participated in an activity for MDA Summer camp, blood donations and Secret Santa visits. Here I was taught that it is part of my job to provide an excellent service and excel in every task I am assigned. My hobbies are spending time with my family and friend as well as going out to discover the world, for there is nothing more exciting for me than to explore new things. I became an English teacher because I believe in students’ potential to improve their English Language Learning experience and their professional development. I believe in the power of education because my life change through education and I believe I can also change many lives to blossom as I did.
